The recent toy series that has garnered the most attention from the press is the Messenger of Faith talking figure series from one2believe. Each action figure in this series is an important biblical character. Right now the list of available characters includes Jesus, Mary, Esther, David, Moses, Noah, Peter, and Paul. Each doll comes with a story book, and has a speaking feature where the figure can read stories and recite bliblical quotes.
Of all the One2Believe series of toys, this is the most directly evangelical, reciting articles of faith to its owner. These are large format figures (more than 12 inches tall) with well constructed garments. The figures are fully poseable, and most seem to come with some kind of prop. Moses for example comes with a walking stick / staff, while David comes with a sling.
While we understand the purpose of making these talking figures, we hope that in the future non-talking variants will be released. Part of the joy of playing with an action figure as a child is using your imagination. Any device such as a sound recording which fills in the gaps for a child limits this imaginative potential. Since the intention of this series seems to be a sincere hope that child will sit and play with their children in an educational and mentoring way, we don't see why the parent's voice wouldn't have been sufficient to pass on shared beliefs.
